POPnPOEMS. I've used popular music to teach poetics for decades and have taught students of every ability from elementary through post-high school. In recent years, through , I've used popular music to teach poetics to developmentally different (DD) children and youth.
I will be sharing lessons that were designed to be used with DD students, including non-verbal students and students with profound intellectual differences, but the poem pairings will work with students of all abilities , and the lessons can be modified for more advanced students.
Pharrell Williams' "Happy" paired with Emily Dickinson's "Hope Is the Thing with Feathers" provides a wonderful entry into how imagery gives voice to our emotions.

Oola and NooNoo Tales.I wrote this series of stories when I was homeschooling my son as a second and third grader. He has a non-verbal learning disorder, meaning his language skills are advanced, but he is far behind in mathematical and spatial skills. I wanted a program that introduced math through language.
Reading comprehension is geared to third to fifth grade levels, while the math skills target a child who is struggling in this realm. My son transitioned to public school in fourth grade. Although math has always been a struggle, he was able to graduate high school having fulfilled all standard math requirements for graduation.
Oola's Mirror, the first of the series is available for downloading. This booklet has only been used for my own son, so I am very interested in feedback. If you try this booklet, please complete the very brief survey so that I can make improvements to the booklet and guide.
